Thank goodness it is Friday.  I myself am very glad that it is the weekend.  Do you ever find yourselves wishing that the work week was only four days instead of five all of the time like last week?  I know I do.  (Hint…find the examples of reflexive and intensive pronouns in that paragraph.)

No HS 101 today!

Grammar: We went over the personal pronoun homework from Thursday in the GCH book and moved on to reflexive and intensive pronouns in our notes and in the WC book.  We did the Concept Check on p. 557 in class.

Literature: We began  reading the story “The Sniper” on p. 4 of the literature book.  We didn’t finish because we were stopping to discuss the study guide as we read, but we will finish on Monday.

No homework over the weekend.

Go Wolverines! BEAT AYNOR!!!

HS 101–We went through an inventory of our study habits.  Many of us did not score very well.  Remember that your goal is to improve, not stay the same or become worse.  Pick one of the skills and started working on improving your study skills.

Grammar–We talked about personal pronouns today.  For practice, we did p. 550-1 in the Writer’s Craft book.

Literature–We reviewed the steps of the plot diagram and then talked about setting and characters.

HOMEWORK:

  • p. 98-101 in the blue Grammar and Composition Handbook
  • Section II of the worksheet, Study Guide for “The Sniper”

Happy Hump-day!

HS 101-Ms. Woods spoke today about the study method SQR3: Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review.  Hopefully this will be helpful to some of you.

Grammar-We continued reviewing pronouns and antecedents today with the worksheet from last night’s homework and p. 547-9 in the Writer’s Craft book.

Literature–I issued the textbooks today, but unfortunately we didn’t have time to discuss short story elements like I had hoped.  That will be for tomorrow, I suppose.

NO HOMEWORK TONIGHT!

September 4, 2007

I hope that you all enjoyed your extended weekend and that your Labor Day was a relaxing one.  I spent the day playing golf and spending time with my wife and daughter.  I won’t say how golf went, but my time with my family was good.

HS 101–We learned about using the first letters of words in a list to help us remember them.

Vocabulary–Remember that we do not have a vocabulary unit this week.

Grammar–We reviewed nouns and the types of nouns we have studied for the past week and then took a quiz on p. 545-6 of The Writer’s Craft.  We then began to look at pronouns and antecedents on p. 547.

HOMEWORK:

  • Worksheet: “What is a Pronoun?”
